Acres West specializes in training for young beginning, intermediate and advanced riders. New and beginning riders are trained by Mary Galletti who only focuses on the needs of these riders. When appropriate, young riders will show under the supervision of Mary. Leslie Steele personally oversees all the training for intermediate and advanced riders. Intermediate and advanced riders travel with Leslie to larger A-rated shows in California and all over the United States including the fall indoor shows at Penn National Horseshow and the Washington International horseshow.
At Acres West we take great joy in offering young children the chance to experience riding and learning to become accomplished equestrians. We are especially prepared for these future equestrians with an experienced training staff. Generally kids are ready for riding at around age 5. We find for young kids riding is an empowering experience and builds a unique sense of self confidence.
About Mary Galletti
Mary Galletti was born and raised in Newport Beach, CA where she started riding at the age of 6. Under the tutelage of Ginny Spooner, Mary spent the next 12 years receiving a solid foundation in equitation and horsemanship, volunteering to take on the summer camp program, tacking and untacking for lessons, grooming at shows, and every other odd job under the sun, while competing on the competitive West Coast show circuit. At age 16, Mary was fortunate to become a working student for Liz Denny, where she learned the ropes of running and managing a competitive hunter/jumper show barn and furthered her education as a rider by taking lessons and attending clinics. After 5 years as a working student with Liz, Mary switched course and worked in the western and reigning world, breaking young horses and Mustangs for extreme trail riding. She soon made her way back to the hunter/jumper circuit, taking jobs with Olympians Sally Clark in New Zealand and Otto Becker and Bliss Heers in Germany.
In 2014, Mary returned from overseas and took the opportunity to start her own hunter/jumper operation in Southern California. In summer of 2016, that operation moved facilities to Acres West, where she has enjoyed working alongside Leslie Steele and being introduced into the fold at a fixture within the hunter/jumper world.
Acres West offers individualized training programs for new and beginning riders. Each program is tailored specifically to fit the needs of each rider. Lessons can be anywhere from 1 to 5 times a week, according to the personal needs of the rider.
Acres West provides hunter/jumper riding lessons for beginners through advanced show riders. New riders receive instruction in proper equitation and horsemanship, creating a solid foundation that will last a lifetime.
